Research and Evaluation

TeacherLine has a demonstrable effect on student academic achievement.

A
study by researchers from Hezel Associates and the Education Alliance at Brown University showed that schools in which at least ten percent of the teachers participated in PBS TeacherLine course had statistically significant achievement gains, in comparison with schools that did not use PBS TeacherLine. Student performance in the “PBS TeacherLine” schools rose in an overall measure (the state ‘report card') as well as against the standardized test scores in content areas covered by the PBS TeacherLine courses.

A School Improvement Partnership Using Online Professional Development: A Case Study

The goal of the Advancing Biology Education through Online Professional Development (ABE-NY) study is to investigate what teachers gain from online professional development and whether it impacts student learning.

Teachers in the ABE-NY study took an online professional development course created by PBS Teachers’ Domain about teaching the topics of genetics and evolution in high school biology courses.

The Education Development Center is working in partnership with PBS TeacherLine New York and Buffalo's public television station WNED to conduct the study.
