Partners and Collaborators

This study brings together the research expertise at the Education Development Center's Center for Children and Technology with the professional development offerings of TeacherLine NY, which are hosted by Buffalo's public television station WNED. WGBH's Teachers' Domain and PBS TeacherLine collaborated with EDC and WNED to provide additional support for the professional development.

Partners

EDC

The Education Development Center (EDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing learning, promoting health, and fostering a deeper understanding about the world. EDC's Center for Children and Technology (CCT) investigates ways that technology can make a difference in children's classrooms, schools, and communities.

Also contributing to this study is EDC's Center for Science Education (CSE), which aims to improve PreK-12 science education by supporting school districts, state agencies, higher education institutions, science museums, and science centers. Principal investigators for this study are Lauren Goldenberg, Senior Research Associate and Shelley Pasnik, Director of CCT. EDC leads this research study.

WNED Buffalo/Toronto and PBS TeacherLine NY

WNED Buffalo/Toronto serves a bi-national region of 3.1 million households across Western New York and Southern Ontario with high-quality public television programming and services that enlighten, inspire, entertain, and educate Buffalo, Toronto, and surrounding communities. WNED serves as the statewide regional coordinator for PBS TeacherLine NY.

With the help of the other eight PBS stations throughout the state, WNED promotes, markets and manages the online professional development service in New York. WNED/PBS TeacherLine NY is responsible for the implementation of the online courses.

Collaborators

PBS TeacherLine

PBS TeacherLine provides professional development to teachers through facilitated online courses, a supportive learning community, and an online suite of tools for instructional coaches, mentors, and teacher-leaders. PBS TeacherLine has more than 130 courses that span the entire curriculum, including a special collection of science courses produced by WGBH Teachers' Domain designed to help educators teach life, physical, earth and space science. Participants in the study take the courses through PBS TeacherLine.

WGBH's Teachers' Domain

Featuring public television content, WGBH's Teachers' Domain provides multimedia classroom resources and professional development courses to K-12 educators nationally. WGBH created the professional development content for the study.
